About The Blog
“The mainstream media is a mammoth, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do something about the way
it affects young women.” – Jessica Valenti, The Purity Myth
Over the last several years of studying in the field of Sociology, I have come across innumerable issues, concepts, realities within our society that have, well truthfully, pissed me off. Some have shocked me, some have humbled me, and some have downright disgusted me. Whether it be on a person level or a legislative level, society seems to have it out for progressive thinkers. So, I began to think what could be done about it and how could I, a white North American university student, do to help change society. To me there is only one answer – awareness and education.
“The number one way people give up their power is by thinking they do not have any.” – Alice Walker
So there we have it – a blog created to present and discuss topics in society that are affecting all of us, whether we admit it or not. I will be the first to admit that I am not the best or most appropriate or most knowledgeable person to be writing about some of the issues that may come up. My intent is not to ridicule anyone, speak on behalf of anyone or any group, and certainly not to offend anyone; my hope is merely to shed some light on some interesting, potentially controversial, issues and share my informed opinion on the matter. I welcome any and all feedback and hope to spark thought, creativity, and inspiration in my readers.
Thank you for picking my blog out of the clutter of Internet media to feed your thoughts today.
